Emily Noël, soprano

Emily Noël, soprano, has been recognized for both her “strikingly lovely voice” (Washington Post) and her “accomplished” stage acting (Baltimore Sun). Ms. Noël has sung a diverse repertoire of operatic roles with American Opera Theater, Annapolis Opera, Opera Vivente, The Maryland Lyric Opera and Opera Theater of Northern Virginia. Opera highlights include leading roles in Cavalli’s La Calisto and La Didone, Charpentier’s David et Jonathas, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, and Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo.

Ms. Noël enjoys an active oratorio and recital career and has recently appeared with The Aoede Consort, The Peabody Consort, The New York Classical Guitar Society, The Frederick Choral Arts Society, The Seattle Academy of Baroque Opera, The Bach Sinfonia, and The Handel Choir of Baltimore. Favorite oratorio credits include Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Respighi’s Laud to the Nativity, Bach’s Magnificat, and Haydn’s Paukenmesse.

Ms. Noël co-founded Barefoot Baroque, a four member chamber ensemble dedicated to a fresh and casual approach to the performance of early music, most recently appearing in a concert to Benefit AIDS Action Baltimore. Ms. Noël also helped to establish Candesco, a trio of treble voices in residence at the Cathedral of Mary our Queen in Baltimore, MD.

As a solo recitalist, Ms. Noël has appeared at An Die Musik, The Cloisters Castle, St. Johns in the Village, and the Johns Hopkins University Homewood House. Ms. Noël presented a lecture recital at Johns Hopkins University on the music of Monteverdi through the Johns Hopkins Odyssey Program, and has appeared at Indiana University as a guest artist with the IU New Music Ensemble.

Upcoming engagements include Monteverdi’s Vespers with the Orchestra of the 17th Century; Mozart’s Vesperae solennes de confessore at the Church of the Redeemer; Vaughn Williams’ Mass in G minor with the Handel Choir of Baltimore, and fully staged performances of Handel’s oratorio Jephtha with American Opera Theater. Ms. Noël holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Master of Music from Peabody Conservatory, with advanced studies at the Eastman School of Music. She currently serves as an artist/teacher in voice at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
