Emma Niesl, flute
Emma Niesl is currently pursuing a Master of Music at Carnegie Mellon University with Alberto Almarza and Jeanne Baxtresser. She holds a BA in Music and a BFA in Dance from theUniversity of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Miss Niesl has served as 3rd Flute/Piccolo with the Florida Grand Opera Orchestra in Miami,Florida, and has performed with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the Palm Beach Opera Orchestra and the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also performed as a soloist with the Frankly Music series in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and was a flutist at the Bowoin Summer Music Institute in Brunswick, Maine and at the Leonard Sorkin Institute of Chamber Music in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She has performed in masterclasses by Mark Sparks, Leone Buyse, Tadeu Coelho and Joshua Smith. Her teachers include Jeanne Baxtresser, Alberto Almarza, Trudy Kane, Jeani Foster, Caen Thomason-Redus and Robert Goodberg.
Miss Niesl recently returned from an Argentinian recital and teaching tour as a member of Zonda Duo, a flute duet comprised of Miss Niesl and flutist Julieta Blanco specializing in performing contemporary works by Latin American and North American composers. While in Argentina, Miss Niesl also served as a member of the faculty at the second annual International Festival of Youth and Children’s Orchestras in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Miss Niesl is passionate about collaborations between music and dance and enjoys being involved in new work of all art forms. She was a dancer with Wild Space dance company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is a certified yoga instructor, and is developing an original yoga program geared toward classical musicians. She has been sought-after as a clinician and teacher providing master classes in both music and movement throughout Wisconsin, South Florida and Pennsylvania.
