Micah Levy, composer

Micah Levy has written music for many types of ensembles including orchestra, band, choir, piano, klezmer band, jazz band & electronics.  His orchestral music has been performed with professional orchestras such as the San Diego Symphony, the Harford Symphony and the Salisbury (NC) Symphony as well as community orchestras.  He has garnered critical acclaim for his music as well as numerous prizes including one in the Frank Tichelli  Composition Competition.    His Joy (Mostly!) for band is published by Manhattan Beach Music.  It was his first commission, but since that time has been commissioned to write many more works for band.

Micah is the winner of the Frank D. Willis Memorial Prize In Composition (Peabody Conservatory, 2011).  Mr. Levy is currently a composition student of Ricardo Lorenz in the DMA program at Michigan State University.  He is a former student of Oscar Bettison at the Peabody Conservatory where he earned his MM in composition and theory pedagogy.  He also studied with Judah Adashi at Peabody.
