With the acceptance of the Arts Council Music Commissions Grant for the commissioning of Irish composer, David Coonan, Vivre Musicale has set out to reinvent the song cycle. This work, titled Songs of War & Peace, will be a 25-30 minute multi-movement work that treats the duality of war and subsequent peace through the soprano and tenor voice, with clarinet and piano serving occasionally as victims, instigators, passersby, observers, making musical commentary as they are swept up in the tumult of the experience. Through an unconventional composition style and elements of theatrical staging, this work, in its construction, will reflect the instability of war and the sweeping relief that comes with peace
To be premiered the Summer of 2013, Vivre Musicale is excited to take this work on their first tour and, in their 5th season, have it serve as the capstone of their first professional recording. All of this requires the financial support of conscientious patrons like you.
We challenge you to be a part of the realization of this monumental goal and help us support the awesome talents of young, inspiring artists and composers, by making an online donation that can be found on our Support page.
